Default How often to you change aux belt tensioner and idle pulley?

hi All
S60 D5 2002 230k mles
I will have to change timing belt using timing belt kit which includes tensioner and the water pump.

Apart from that i would like to replace aux belt but wonder if I am not doing too much as the kit i was going to buy includes tensioner and some extra pulley as well.
How often do you change aux belt, tensioner and pulley?

Personally, I change the aux belt every 54,000 miles or 5 years (whichever comes first). The tensioner I change when the cam belt is due (every 10 years).

I enclose the volvo service sheet detailing what you do and when...

Very unwise to buy non volvo cambelt parts why risk it ? also you wont need a water pump.. as long as it turns smoothly and has no sign of coolant leak, I have yet to see one which needs changing after working on them since these volvo water pumps came out on the 960 over 30 years ago. If you fit that non volvo water pump it WILL fail sooner rather than later. The only water pumps I have changed are the non volvo ones people have unwisely fitted.

Volvo water pumps are made by Aisin… Very high quality. There’s nothing aftermarket that can match their quality.

I agree with the above. Buy genuine parts, especially for critical items like timing belts.

I can also confirm from experience that aftermarket water pumps fail. My Dad’s V70 is an example of that and it derailed the cam belt, which nearly destroyed the engine according to the Volvo specialist that fitted the new pump. Turns out after diagnosis it was a cheap pump that was fitted by the previous owner. Fitted a genuine one, but its lucky that it didn’t cause serious damage . Lesson learned.

Ah yes. I didn't click the link. My mistake.

Volvopartstrade on eBay (that's the seller name, but its actually a dealership you're buying from at trade prices).

I've used them plenty of times myself. I think they're based in Newcastle, formerly known as Mill Volvo.

That's a good idea. If the existing one is genuine, leave it alone.
